Giliad

I have friends who live in Peeples Valley near Yarnell which has been evacuated because of a wildfire. In the past they raised burros that would eat down some of the vegetation in the area to keep the fuel for a fire down to manageable levels. Winter rains cause grasses to grow and the trees have high levels of oil in them so when they catch on fire they burn for a long time so burros are the governments way to keep the danger to lower levels. This past year they have been out of town so the burros had to go.

The area is kinda dry normally but recently they have had really high temps. The grasses have become like straw and are no longer green. If you hike around the property a bit you will see some great view and many petroglyphs.

A wildfire hit the area caused by lightning. It burned over 8000 acres or 13 square miles. The fire was heading to their house, nearly crossed a creek to their property. The wind changed and spared their home but the winds shift trapped 19 firefighters who lost their lives.
